Sea kayaking - April 2005

Roanoke River, eastern NC near Jamesville

Up until we were halfway through the initial "gathering" snack, this trip was supposed to be a sea kayaking trip to Bear Island. The "gale warning" on the coast had given us some second thoughts, but it was a call to the Park Office that made up our minds. A group of 6 had just gone in and reserved the only semi-protected sites on the island. We didn't want to be stuck camping on the beach in a gale. So we quickly drew up a Plan B, called the Roanoke River Partners office, and reserved two of the platforms on the Roanoke River Canoe Trail.
